Norton Power Eraser is a standalone tool claims to find and eliminate malware items that are difficult to remove or often overlooked by other spyware scanners. The program uses aggressive methods and is intended as a last resort, after you have exhausted other options. We agree, Norton Power Eraser should definitely be the very last app to use for malware removal because the accuracy of the results is comparable to a shot in the dark. All the programs it found during our test scan were false positives, many of them apparently flagged because the Norton user database did not have sufficient information on the file or there were `some indication` that the file is untrustworthy (unfortunately they don`t disclose what those indications are). Maybe Power Eraser will become more useful as the user community grows and accuracy of the results increases, but until then you should look elsewhere for comprehensive malware detection.
GetFolderSize enables you determine the size of folders and sub-folders on your local drives and other storage devices. It produces a report that shows the total size for each folder, the overall percentage of disk space used and the number of files in each folder. You can also drill down and inspect the content of each folder and sort the view by file date, extension, size and other details. GetFolderSize can display sizes in bytes, kilobytes, megabytes or gigabytes, either as rounded values as decimals. Other features include options to print or export a folder list, Unicode support, optional Explorer integration and more.
Back4Sure is a simple backup program that allows you to backup all your important files and folders. The program performs incremental backups, so only new or changed files will be copies to the backup location. You can select the folders to be included in the backup with simple check boxes and also choose to include or exclude files based on their extension, age and size. The backups can optionally be stored in compressed format (.zip or .7z). Other features include a cleanup option that will remove obsolete files from your backup set and detailed logging of backup operations. Back4Sure does not come with a built-in scheduling feature but allows you to create shortcuts on the desktop that will automatically run a backup when clicked (or you can used Windows Task Manager to schedule them). The program is free but shows a nag screen every 10 days that asks for a donation.
